Okay so here is a interesting one to say the least!
Channel your inner Kirk Hammett (the Murphy Lab reissue of his 70s V is now out for a cool £8K).
This however has an original build date of 1974/5 - not a reissue.
This has been independently identified by two separate Gibson specialists as either a 74 or 75 Gibson Flying V and features all original hardware and pickups except the Grover tuners which are 70s period correct. It also has a non original but 70s era hard case.
However, in the early 80s the original owner decided to take inspiration from the new CMT model and added a flame maple cap and refinish. They must have commissioned a good luthier as it’s a professional job and looks amazing.
SN is 550965 which is in the photos but super hard to read with the refinish.
Unfortunately it does feature the classic headstock repair which if you know these guitars is super common and doesn’t detract from the sound one bit. The repair is a professional job and only shows up under lite. They appear to have used a scarf joint to carry out the fix and the bottom half of the neck looks a bit like it has a maple flame while the headstock is mahogany and original (this feels seamless when playing). SN confirms date along with pickups and pots. Photos of trus rod and under pickups for further verification of originality.
I would simply sum up by saying this guitar has been repaired and has had an upgrade but it’s nearly 50 years old and plays as a proper vintage Gibson should. Priced taking the mods/repair into account.
